Japan’s women scored with 2 free kicks to give themselves a point in this crucial World Cup match. Both free kicks were controversial but Aya Miyama has proved she is Beckham like with her free kicks but England have a lot of postives to take from the game and will know now their next game against Argentine is key.

To be honest the opening 35 minutes were drab. England looked fairly confident on the counter-attack but both sides were defending well. However on 37 minutes England’s women nearly scored. The Japenese goalkeeper Miho Fukumoto (lol funny name) raced from her line but she missed the ball and England’s Eniola Aluko missed the opening goal but it was from a very tight angle.

However the Japenese goalie proved she knew her stuff when she saved well from Fara Williams. However Japan went ahead when Katie Chapman gave away a free kick 25 yards out which was turned home by the free kick godess Miyama. I felt the free kick wasn’t a free kick but there you go…

And it looked like England wouldn’t score Rachel Yankey missed a glorious chance with 20 minutes to go when her header went wide. Somehow she had missed but the manager was smiling. God knows why? It was a bad miss. However on 80 minutes England scored it looked like they wouldn’t but Japan were slack with their pass and it was intercepted the women played it to Kelly Smith who held off two defenders and fired home.

And then England took the lead Smith worked an opening and from a difficult angle she saw her first shot saved but she stuck the re-bound home! 2-1 England and it looked like now that England would get 3 points and it would be vital considering these two are likely to be battling for 2nd place following Germany’s 11-0 win over Argentina.

However in the 93rd minute another free kick was given and the godess of free kicks scored again from 25 yards out with a shot that went like a bullet! Smack! Bang! Into the top corner. It ended a draw and it proves that it’ll be very tight between these two teams to see who will go through.
