Introduction
Firstly, when will you ever hear of United winning three games on the trot 1-0? Not many times as we’re not the sort of team who does that but for now it will be taken because our football and our injuries aren’t going the way we quite planned and therefore we’d take all the one-nil wins.
Goodison Park has held many good memories for United over the years in 2002/03 we were presented with the Premiership title and many considered last seasons 4-2 victory over Everton as the day we clinched the title – how different this tie was, mainly because of the internationals but this was in all honesty not much of a spectacle.
Now for the good and bad from the game, here we go.
The Good
Manchester United maintained a winning streak which now stretches back three games and with Chelsea dropping more points we’re now level and our little stumble is all but forgotten.
United’s back four marshalled by Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic have kept four clean sheets in six matches this season, this is without Gary Neville, the departed Gabriel Heinzé and Mikael Silvestre who went off injured just before half time.
Clean sheets win games and United’s third one-nil victory of the season are of the sort that will insure the title remains at Old Trafford.
Although United haven’t scored many goals in the opening six league games, we’ve got goals from all areas yet again. Paul Scholes, Nani, Louis Saha and Nemanja Vidic have all scored continuing the trend that our defenders, midfielders and strikers can score.
David Moyes will be happy that his side held their own against the Champions and deserved atleast a point. Meaning that as we all recognised the league’s ‘bottom tier’ have got stronger.
The Bad
A lot was expected of Andy Johnson and Ayegbeni Yakubu but as of yet they haven’t shone together – of course it’s early days.
Everton fans ridiculous cries for Paul Scholes to be sent off.
The referees bookings of Cristiano Ronaldo for simulation and Paul Scholes for hand ball – unfortunately yellow cards cannot be rescinded – the referee was a crowd pleaser all match long.
We, United, are yet to find our rhythm and football that we expressed and put on display last season.
Mikael Silvestre picked up a knee ligament injury and is out for the rest of the season – just underlining United’s luck with injuries since the rear end of last season and José thinks he has a lot to moan about.
Conclusion
To wrap it up, the game wasn’t a great advert for the league but what it was, was United showing that gri and determination we had to show at places like Craven Cottage and Anfield last season. Everybody knows our flowing football will come soon and in the meantime victories like this will do and be significant in the title race. I’m still putting as favourites for the league, we will win it. I’m that confident!
