Form

In the last 6 games New York have only won once where as LA Galaxy have won 5 and drew 1. However out of those last 6 games New York have only lost two. While their one win in 6 was in their last game. As for LA Galaxy they have won their last 5 games in a row so going into this game Galaxy are the form team.

Team News

For the LA Galaxy Alan Gordon and Abel Xavier are likely to be out while Chris Albright and Quavas Kirk are doubtful. However the LA Galaxy are able to welcome back David Beckham but because of fitness and the side winning he is likely to start on the bench. Donovan will likely captain the team.

As for the New York Red Bulls it is just Mike Magee and Claudio Reyna are the only players that will miss the match.

Importance

If LA Galaxy definetly want to qualify for the Play-offs then they need to win their last two games which are home game against New York Red Bulls and an away game against Chicago. If we win both then we will definetly go through. New York have already qualified for the Play-offs so have little to play for.

However this game is very important to one New York player (Juan Pablo Angel), He is a goal behind Luciano Emilio in the race for the MLS Leading goalscorer award. I think Angel will win it but hopefully we can keep him quiet tonight. Also Beckham is likely to come off the bench at some point.

Verdict

LA Galaxy are on top form while the New York Red Bulls have sliden a bit since qualfying you can hardly blame them. The main focus for them should be the Play-offs however Bruce Arena would love to come here and spoil the party but despite that I think with Beckham back and the Galaxy having 27,000 loud and vocal fans behind them they will come out on top.

Prediction: LA Galaxy 2-1 New York Red Bulls

  1. The Galaxy have really started to get going since the Beckham circus fell away with his injury. Now that he is back, albeit on the bench, they are a form team and I cannot see anything but a Galaxy win. Considering that the team without Beckham is playing so well when you add him to the mix they will only improve further. Confidence is high at the Home Depot Center and The Red Bulls have their eyes a little off the ball now they are confirmed in the Playoffs.

I think Galaxy will win 2-0 with Beckham coming on to dispatch a customary free-kick late on to seal it.
