Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez says his team selection for tonight’s crunch Premiership clash at
Reading will have nothing to do with Tuesday night’s massive Champions League tie in Marseille.

The Reds need a win in France on Tuesday to progress to the knock-out stages of Europe’s elite club competition, but Benitez says he is only thinking about the visit to the Majedski Stadium at the moment, where his Liverpool side will aim to pick up their forth successive league win.

“It’s not about rotating or deciding which game is more important; it’s thinking about how to win this game with the right players and how to win the next one with the right players”, Benitez said, as he tries to work out which players to start at Reading before turning his attention to Marseille.

“So we will try to win this game, then try to win the next one – and that is the reason top sides need a big squad because you must use different players in different games” he continued.

As well as Benitez’s squad having no idea who will be playing before a game, the opposition manager is left clueless to the personnel his side will be facing. Reading boss Steve Coppell had this to say about The Reds: “They are fabulous at the moment,” he said. “The money they’ve spent, the depth of the squad they have, the range of options. They are difficult to prepare against because obviously Rafa’s notorious for chopping and changing.”

I personally hope Rafa names his strongest eleven for this evening’s very important Premier League encounter in Reading, as these are the kind of games which The Reds will need to win if their title hopes are to remain alive.

But I also understand the importance of the coming week, with Liverpool facing Marseille, Manchester United and Chelsea in the next ten days in three different competitions.

So do you think Liverpool will have enough in their locker to see off Reading later today? Or do you think Steve Coppell’s men will claim an unlikely draw or win?
