Jose Mourinho is still in progress to conquer Europe with three different teams, he progressed from Real Madrid in the Champions League of quarter-finals for the first time in seven years.

Real convincingly saw Lyon to record a comprehensive victory by 4-1 with goals from Marcelo, Karim Benzema and Angel Di María by making the bed of his miserable record of having fallen on this same stage of the last-16 for six successive seasons – even against Lyon last season.

The victory also means Madrid are a step closer to winning a record tenth European title.

Real took the lead when Marcelo superbly cut inside Defender sliding Lyon Dejan Lovren and struck a shot past goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, which has a hand to the ball but could not keep out.

Benzema scored nine goals in their last seven games in the second half when practicable in a Marcelo long ball and slotted through the legs of Lloris.

A rapid response in Lyon would have given them hope, but found themselves 3-0 down when Mesut Ozil header makes Angel Di Maria through and the Argentine extreme coolly dinked his shot on Lloris.

The result sealed 25 successive Madrid victory in all competitions.
