When asked directly about Jelavic today, Moyes said: “I never talk about players at other clubs, I wouldn’t do that.

“I don’t like it and I didn’t like it when I was a player and I kept hearing there were other centre-halves coming in to take my position. I wouldn’t talk about players at other clubs.

“If there was any news I would give it to you. You will need to wait until midnight tomorrow night and then we will let you know what is happening.”

Rangers midfielder Juanma Ortiz has returned to Spain with a view to joining his former club Almeria on loan.

The Scottish champions have reached a verbal agreement with the Spaniards over a short-term deal until the end of the season.

Ortiz became Ally McCoist’s first signing as Rangers manager when he arrived at Ibrox in July on a three-year-deal.

The 29-year-old was recruited from Almeria for an undisclosed fee – reported to be around £500,000 – but has made just 13 appearances for the Light Blues.

Aberdeen have completed the signing of Dundee midfielder Gavin Rae.

Dons manager Craig Brown revealed at the weekend he was hopeful of securing the services of the 34 year-old before tomorrow’s transfer deadline.

And the former Cardiff man has now joined the Pittodrie club on an 18-month deal.

Rae is cup-tied for Saturday’s William Hill Scottish Cup tie with Queen of the South, meaning he will have to wait until the following week to make his Dons debut.

Dundee United have confirmed the signing of Slovakian striker Milos Lacny on a 12-month loan deal, subject to international clearance.

The 23 year-old joins the Tannadice club from Czech Liga leaders Sparta Prague.

Dundee United have received two inquiries from Celtic regarding striker Johnny Russell.

Polish striker Pawel Brozek has joined Celtic on loan from Trabzonspor until the end of the season, the Clydesdale Bank Premier League club have confirmed.

Ipswich have completed the signing of midfielder Ryan Stevenson from Hearts for an undisclosed fee.

The 27-year-old scored 11 goals in 67 appearances for the Scottish club but has not featured for the last month due to a dispute regarding payment of the players’ wages.

Stevenson, who could make his debut when Paul Jewell’s side face West Ham on Tuesday, said: “I had a few other teams interested but when a club of the stature of Ipswich comes in for you, you take it.

“It’s a massive opportunity for me, too big to turn down and I can’t wait to get going.

“Playing in England has always been a big ambition of mine and to have a chance of playing for such a big club and alongside so many top players is fantastic.”

St Johnstone have completed the loan signings of Tottenham Hotspur striker Kudus Oyenuga and Celtic’s James Keatings until the end of the season.

Kilmarnock have signed Celtic youngster Lewis Toshney on loan until the end of the season.

Hibernian are in talks with Honduran international Jorge Claros and are considering signing the midfielder, STV reported.

Claros has recently been on trial at Rangers but left the Ibrox club without agreeing a transfer.

The Scottish Football Association is reportedly in discussions over an away friendly against the USA in May.
